Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction Fall 2019
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 11/5/2019
A product of the Kingston Canadiens, Mike O’Connell spent a dozen seasons in the NHL, appearing for three different clubs, with time also spent with Team USA at the 1981 Canada Cup. From his time in Motor City, we have a Detroit Red Wings alternate captain’s jersey worn by the Chicago native in 1988-89, his fourth season in Michigan. A Maska label is affixed to the collar, with the sweater measuring-out to roughly a size 50. Styled with the classic winged-wheel Red Wings team crest with embroidered detailing, “2” appears over the sleeves and verso in single white twill, with Eastside and CCM crests over the reverse hem. We should also note that the fight strap shows evidence of repeated washings.
Sporting a few marks from game use including over the lower front and left sleeve, there are board burns and blue paint transfer near the right elbow, with some pilling to the inner left sleeve.
