This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 11/5/2019
The James Norris Trophy winner in 1959, Tom Johnson was one of the premier defenceman of the Original Six era, with an impressive eight Stanley Cup championships won as a player, coach and assistant general manager and he was deservedly so inducted in the Hockey Hall of Fame in 1970. From a season that witnessed Montreal being crowned Stanley Cup champions for a record fifth-straight time, we have a stick used by Johnson in 1959-60, team-signed by the Canadiens. A CCM Pattern Made Professional model, “Johnson” and “10” appear stamped over the upper shaft, with the original black tape on the blade and white over the knob. 18 have signed one side of the shaft in blue ink including 8 members of the HHOF (7 are deceased), with Johnson, along with Beliveau, Plante, Blake, Harvey, Moore, Richard and the Rocket.
The stick shows light use, with a few puck marks on the lower shaft and heel. The additional signers include Bonin, Provost, Goyette, Marshall, Pronovost, Backstrom, Langlois, Talbot, Hicke and Bob Turner. The signatures display beautifully, with just a few somewhat light/faded.
