Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction Winter 2020
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 2/26/2020
Tied for second place with North Dakota for all-time NCAA National Hockey Championships with eight, the Denver Pioneers formed in 1949-50, and since the creation of the Western Collegiate Hockey Association in 1959, the University of Denver has earned 9 WCHA Regular Season Championships. A number of past NHL stars have worn the Pioneers jersey including Glenn Anderson, Kevin Dineen and Craig Patrick. This lot contains a late-1960s game-worn Pioneers jersey, a team-signed stick with use attributed to Keith Magnuson and a small mounted puck plaque presented to Peter McNab for WCHA All-Star selection in 1972-73.
The jersey sports a Sand Knit label and size “44” fly tag on the inside hem, with “Denver” across the chest in layered tackle twill and “20” over the sleeves and verso in matching material (A vintage image shows Keith Magnuson wearing a matching style jersey circa 1967-68). Dark marks are visible over the front and sleeves, with a few faint burns over the right elbow section. The shield-shaped wooden plaque is approx 9” x 11”, with a mounted Converse puck with rubberized logo (material loss to the logo), with an engraved plate added along the base listing the particulars including “The Denver Post – WCHA 1972-73 All Star Team – Presented to Pete McNab – University of Denver”. The puck and plaque both show wear, with scratches over the engraved plate. Lastly, the stick is a Northland Glass Fused Pro model with “Mag” and “Mag 2” handwritten over the upper shaft (the Mag is believed to be for “Magnuson”), along with “68” on one side of the shaft, and “69” on the other. The stick shows good use, with a large sliver broken and loose over the heel section, with the original white tape in place over the knob. Both sides of the shaft have been signed, one side in dark black ink, the other in faint pencil. Signers include Magnuson, Cliff Koroll, Gerry Jonasson, Don Thiessen, Frank Daly, Ed Hamilton, Gerry Powers, Tim Gould, Jim Wiste and others, with a number of the black ink signatures smudged including Magnuson.
