Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction Fall 2019
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 11/5/2019
Hockey’s most innovative netminder, Jacques Plante roamed creases for over two decades, with his legacy cemented every time a goaltender takes a shot to the mask. From the peak of his legendary career when the Canadiens dominated the hockey world, we have a stick used by Plante during the Stanley Cup championship and Vezina-winning season of 1957-58, and it’s been team-signed, with signatures present from 9 Hall of Fame members. A CCM Pattern Made Professional model, “Plante” is stamped over the upper shaft, with an additional stamp from team supplier Raymond Hardware. The original black tape is intact over the blade and knob, with 21 signing one side of the shaft including Plante, along with fellow deceased HOF inductees Beliveau, Moore, Reardon, Geoffrion, Johnson, Blake and the Rocket.
The additional signers include McNeil, Provost, Marshall, Goyette, Pronovost, St Laurent, Talbot, Curry, Broden, Turner, McDonald, Langlois and a young Henri Richard. The signatures display well, with a number executed in pencil including Reardon, with the Plante and Curry first signed in green ink, with a second signature by each placed over top. The stick itself shows great use, with wear over the taped section of blade (no cracks), with some of the tape missing from the paddle (there are also loose strands at the tip of the blade and top of paddle). “1957-58” has also been handwritten on the paddle, with most of the striping accent over the handle faded but intact.
