Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction Fall 2019
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 11/5/2019
First seeing action in the Negro and Mexican leagues before ascending to the Brooklyn Dodgers in 1948, Roy Campanella was an eight-time All-Star and three-time National League MVP, with a single World Series championship won in 1955. Suffering a paralyzing car accident in 1958, Campanella would need the assistance of a wheelchair for the remainder of his life. We have a hardcover copy of “Roy Campanella” by Dick Young, with the 1953 NL RBI-leader signing. Published in 1952, the dust jacket picturing Campanella remains intact, with the star catcher signing the first page in dark blue ink, adding a personalization along with “Best Wishes”. The signature is flawless, with just light wear and toning to the book and moderate handling wear to the dust jacket. An LOA from Beckett will accompany.
