Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction Fall 2019
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 11/5/2019
With his career cut somewhat short due to a near-fatal injury from a pitched ball in 1937, catcher Mickey Cochrane was a two-time American League MVP and three-time World Series champion, with the Bridgewater native widely regarded as one of the game’s all-time greatest backstops. From one major leaguer to another, we have a vintage photo signed by Cochrane and dedicated to longtime Indians pitcher, Mel Harder. At 7 ½” x 9 ½”, the matte-finish period photo picture’s Cochrane in a portrait pose, looking all business in his Detroit Tigers finery. Signing beneath his image, Cochrane has added a lengthy dedication to Harder, including “It was a pleasure to catch you in the All Star Game”. The signature displays beautifully with just a small area near the end of the signature that is somewhat pale, with light surface wear to the photo including some silvering along the darker edges. An LOA from JSA will accompany.
