The follow-up to the 1996 World Cup of Hockey, the 2004 edition featured 8 teams in 2 pools, with game played in 6 of the 8 competing nations, with Canada defeating Finland in the final 3-2. This Saku Koivu Team Finland captain’s jersey is photo-matched to the Sept 2nd contest against Germany. Size “56” tagging from Nike is present along the collar along with an IIHF label, with an additional IIHF crest along the back bottom hem. Featuring a partially embroidered Finnish shield team crest with “Suomi” beneath in single-twill, the solid white garment has been embellished with double-twill numbers, with the back letters heat-pressed directly onto the nameplate. The important 2004 World Cup of Hockey patch resides over the left breast, with a Nike swoosh embroidered over the right. There is also a Nike inventory bar code numbered 45141 that sits inverted on the inside hem.
Game-wear consists of a large stick mark on the lower front, along with additional marks over the left sleeve. There is also a heavy burn with resulting hole to the right of the team crest, with some light staining directly beneath the collar. Regarding the previously mentioned photo-match, Getty image #51257138 from the aforementioned Sept 2nd game has been matched to the big black mark across “Suomi” on the lower front, and to the black mark/cut near the team crest. The Finns would shutout the Germans in the Sept 2nd match, 3-0.
