Selected to the First All-Star Team for the fourth time in his career in 1996, Chris Chelios was also awarded the James Norris Trophy that season as the NHL’s premier defenceman, with 72 points scored in just 81 games. We have a photo-matched Chicago Black Hawks captain’s jersey that was worn by Chelios during the first half of the 1995-96 season. A CCM label and size “54” fly tag are affixed to the collar, with NHL and CCM crests over the reverse hem. Styled with the traditional multi-coloured Indian head team crest with chain-stitched detailing, “7” appears over the sleeve and verso in white-over-black tackle twill, with matching tomahawk crests over each shoulder. “96” has also been handwritten at the back of the team crest, with an LOA from the Hawks to accompany.
A few dark marks and burns are visible over the front and sleeves, with 3 team repairs over the front, 1 on the reverse, 4 on the right sleeve and 4 on the left. Getty Images #174474308 (Nov 14, 1995), #174474350 (Dec 6, 1995), #873752958 (Dec 20, 1995) and #873750974 (Dec 20, 1995) have all been matched to the long mark through the team crest.
