Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction Fall 2019

A former vice president of the Detroit Red Wings Alumni Association, John Ogrodnick skated in the NHL for fourteen seasons, with his best season occurring in 1984-85, scoring 105 points in 79 games. We have a Red Wings jersey worn by the Ottawa native in 1982-83. A scarce single-season only jersey featuring uniquely styled cursive numbers, Eastside tagging is firmly affixed to the collar (a Maska tag is now gone), with an embroidered Maska logo on the bottom hem. Styled with the forever-classic winged-wheel Red Wings team crest along with the aforementioned tackle twill cursive numbers, “Ogrodnick” appears over the upper reverse in single red twill, with this the first season Detroit arched surnames on their jerseys. The desirable and rare jersey also sports a garter-style fight strap.
Great use is exhibited on the garment, with scrapes and scuffs over the lower front, along with numerous team repairs over each sleeve including 11 on the right sleeve and 21 on the left. The jersey also appears to have been framed at one time, with a pair of very small holes over the left shoulder, and a single example over the right. We should also note that Getty Image #51916483 is showing the black mark on the "5" on the right sleeve, but the image is not high resolution enough to call a definitive photo-match.
