Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction Fall 2019
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 11/5/2019
Immortalized as one of the first two goaltenders in history to be selected for enshrinement within the hallowed Hall of Fame, Georges Vezina is also the measure of all men that roam creases, with his name emblazoned upon the trophy awarded annually to the game’s greatest netminder. We have an especially large and spectacular reproduction of an original Rice Studios display of Vezina that once hung in the fabled Montreal Forum. At 42 ½” x 63, The Chicoutimi Cucumber is masterly depicted, resplendent in his single-season Canadiens finery, wearing the boastful world champion “globe” sweater only sported by the Bleu Blanc Rouge in 1924-25. Set in a modest black frame and serving as the ultimate Canadiens display piece, please note that due to its especially large size, special shipping arrangements will be required.
With the image of Vezina appearing to have no issues, the frame itself shows considerable wear, with damage along the top section, with the surface heavily worn and flaking away.
