Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction Fall 2019
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 11/5/2019
A perennial scoring machine and arguably the greatest of all superstars that graced the NHL throughout the 1920s/30s, Howie Morenz was a three-time Hart Memorial Trophy winner, and was honoured as one of the original nine selected for Hall of Fame enshrinement and iconic status. We have an especially large and spectacular reproduction of an original Rice Studios display of Morenz that once hung in the fabled Montreal Forum. At 42 ½” x 63, the Stratford Streak is wonderfully depicted in his cherished Canadiens wool, with “In memory of a friend - Jim Rice” visible within the lower left. Set in a modest black frame and serving as a formidable Canadiens display piece, please note that due to its especially large size, special shipping arrangements will be required.
With the image of Morenz appearing to have no issues, the frame itself shows wear, especially along edges, with some of the surface worn or chipped away in spots.
