Registering an astounding 562 points throughout his three seasons in the Q with Laval, Mario Lemieux was selected by Pittsburgh 1st overall at the 1984 NHL Entry Draft. Joining a club in turmoil that hadn’t made the playoffs since 1982 and averaging less than 7,000 spectators a game, Lemieux turned the team around, eventually claiming their first of two consecutive Stanley Cup championships within seven seasons. We have a collection of single-signed hotel notepad sheets from 1984-85 totaling 24, with each signed by a Penguin including a desirable rookie example from Lemieux, each signed on Jan 2, 1985. At 4 ¼” x 8” and on Westbury Hotel letterhead, each sheet has been signed in blue ballpoint, with many adding the personalization “To Neal”, along with an additional salutation. Included along with Lemieux are Ed Johnston, Denis Herron, Mike Bullard, coach Bob Berry, John Chabot, Warren Young, Wayne Babych, Doug Shedden, Roberto Romano, Todd Charlesworth, Troy Loney, Kevin McCarthy, Bryan Maxwell, Roger Belanger, Gary Rissling, Mark Taylor, Greg Hotham and a few others. Each sheet remains in gorgeous condition, with just the lightest amount of handling wear. Mario has added his number and the aforementioned dedication along with “Best Wishes”, with the signature displaying nicely, with “Mario Lemieux” written near the bottom of the page.
