Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction Fall 2019

The National League record holder for career wins (tied with Grover Cleveland Alexander), Christy Mathewson was the premier hurler during the first decade of the 20th century, with his noteworthy screwball pitch arguably second only to Mordecai Brown’s curveball. We have an exceptionally rare issue of Pearson’s magazine from May 1911, with an attractive image of Big Six on the cover. At approx 7” x 10” and especially thick, an accurately depicted drawing of Matty dominates, with the original purchase price of 15 cents listed within the bottom left. Featuring a full article with additional photos of Mathewson, the antique publication is in low grade, with toning, creasing and heavy wear to the spine, with the cover almost detached. Despite these issues, the rarely seen keepsake displays well, and would fit nicely into any Mathewson, Dead Ball or Hall of Fame collection.
