Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction Fall 2019
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 11/5/2019
Seeing success early on with 14 straight playoff berths beginning in their third season in 1974-75, the New York Islanders would be crowned Stanley Cup champions in just their 8th season of NHL action, in 1979-80. The club’s 19 consecutive playoff series wins between 1980 and 1984 during their famous Stanley Cup dynasty, will surely never be broken. We have a collection of Long Island memorabilia totaling just over 20 items, highlighted by a multi-signed team anniversary photo backing. At 10” x 12” and on glossy cardstock with the front designated to house a team photo, both the 25th anniversary “First” and “Second” teams are pictured as selected by the fans, with HOFers Potvin, Smith, Bossy, Gillies and Bryan Trottier signing, along with Nystrom, Langevin, Morrow, Goring, Persson, Westfall, Tonelli and a few others. Next, we have a 1972-73 inaugural season team photo (8 ½” x 10 ½”), a vintage Modell’s Sports Islanders handkerchief, a 1981-82 program for a contest against the Oilers and a young Wayne Gretzky (center line-up detached), a small Islanders “80-83” cloth banner (11” x 16” produced in 1999), a 1979-80 Stanley Cup rayon banner (5 ½” x 10”), a Denis Potvin Canada Post Lithograph still sealed in it’s original packaging, (11” x 14” produced in 2001), a pair of Islanders “1980-81-82” pinbacks (2 ½”), a 1996 Lester Patrick Award clear plastic puck with “Ken Morrow”, an NHLPA Islanders keychain (1983), assorted pins/small items (11) and a 1980 Olympic roster packet (2 ½” x 4”). The signatures display well on the multi-signed piece, with most of the remaining items in the grouping showing just light wear, with some toning to the pair of pinbacks. We should also note that the additional pins all are without their back fasteners.
