Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction Fall 2019
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 11/5/2019
Finalists competing for the CHL’s Adams Cup in 1980, the Fort Worth Texans - led by the club’s top centerman Gary Dillon - were the only team from the league to twice defeat the “Miracle on Ice” US Olympic Team, first on Jan 16th 1980, with the second victory coming 9 days later. His first of two seasons with the Colorado Rockies affiliate, Dillon would secure 56 points in 77 games during the 1979-80 campaign. Hailing from his personal collection, we have the puck used by Dillon to plot his very first goal for the Texans, along with an 8” x 10” team photo. Mounted to a finished 7” x 9” wooden plaque, the puck sports a screened-on Texans team logo with a pair of affixed, layered metal plaques listing the particulars including “First Goal” and “Texans vs Houston – October 12, 1979”. The photo pictures the full squad with the traditional on-ice team photo, with the full list of players handwritten over the reverse. Both the plaque and photo have been signed by Dillon, with “Gary” heavily smudged on the plaque. Both also show moderate wear but display wonderfully.
