Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction Fall 2019
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 11/5/2019
While it’s hard for any modern hockey adherent to imagine netminders roaming the crease bare-faced, that was entirely the case for the majority of the sport’s existence. Originating from the formative days of head gear protection, we have a rare circa late-1950s Louch plexiglass goal mask. With a girth of 7” across the reverse from ear to ear, the mask feature’s the original red leather strapping, leather head plate and matching leather-covered chin padding within the interior, with a sticker from the company over the front of the chin section stating “Shatterproof Face”. In beautiful condition with the leather remaining supple and just light wear throughout, there are a few scratches to the plexiglass, with a bit of surface loss to the affixed company decal.
