Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction Fall 2019

Founded in 1872 as the Smith & Hemenway Company Inc, Red Devil Tools was the first maker to offer a "Rotary Paper Cutter", in 1875, with this evolving into the modern glass cutters still used. Capitalizing on the taboo “Red Devil” name beginning in the early-1900s when the founder Landon P. Smith heard a blacksmith remark "those little red devils" after being singed from forge sparks, the company is still recognized as Red Devil today. We have a rare display sign from the circa-1920s, a catalog of merchandise from 1939 - perfect for matching display, along with a 1970s thermometer. At 11 ½” x 11 ½” at the widest points, the pentagon-shaped dual-sided sign features the iconic red devil, with text in the company’s vintage script below, along with “Paint-Up Patch-Up”. The large 8 ½” x 11” catalog feature’s an identical devil logo, with the full line of merchandise offered, lavishly illustrated.
