Representing his nation at the Canada Cup in 1981, 1984 and 1987, Ray Bourque would also don the sacred maple leaf at the 1998 Winter Olympics in Nagano, leading all defenceman in scoring at the tournament, with 3 points in 6 games. From his personal collection, we have a group of 6 items from the ’98 Games. First, we have gloves used by the superstar, with these Sher-Wood SP-5060 models in Team Canada colours, with “77” embroidered over each wrist guard. Next, we have a Bauer Team Canada jersey with “L” sizing and a tackle twill team crest, with 17 signing the front and team crest in black marker including Bourque, along with Steve Yzerman, Joe Sakic, Patrick Roy, Wayne Gretzky and others. Rounding out the lot, we have a small ’98 banner signed by Ray, a Team Canada Roots beret and a matted Team Canada team photo. A signed LOA from Ray Bourque will accompany. A portion of the sales from the Ray Bourque personal collection will benefit the Bourque Family Foundation.
The gloves show light but definite use, with rubbing to the leather in spots along with some wear to the right palm. The jersey displays well with no issues for the signatures, with the additional signers to include Mark Recchi, Curtis Joseph, Trevor Linden, Walter Gretzky, Chris Pronger, Brendan Shanahan, the actor Chuck Norris and a few others. The cap and small banner (7” x 10”) both show light wear, with the 10” x 14” team photo matted over cardboard to full dimensions of approx 16” x 27 ½”, with a team roster inserted over the right.
