Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction Fall 2019
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 11/5/2019
The longest-serving captain in Beantown history, Ray Bourque enjoyed selection as an All-Star on 19 occasions, with his final NHL campaign in Colorado his most successful, with a Stanley Cup championship won in his 23rd season. From that very season that witnessed the Montreal native immortalized as a Stanley Cup victor, we have an Avalanche alternate captain’s jersey worn by Bourque during his swan song season, in 2000-01. A label with attached size “58” fly tag is affixed to the collar, with KOHO and NHL crests over the reverse neckline and bottom hem respectively. Styled with a textured Aves team crest with embroidered detailing, “77” appears over the sleeves and verso, with matching alternate Bigfoot crests over each shoulder. The sleeves have also been custom-shortened, with the circumference also taken-in on each. A signed LOA from Ray Bourque will accompany this desirable jersey. A portion of the sales from the Ray Bourque personal collection will benefit the Bourque Family Foundation.
A few board burns are present along with a small black mark on the right sleeve, with additional marks through the left sleeve’s number. There are also burns over the left cuff, with a few black marks visible within the team crest. We should also note that it is generally known that Bourque wore multiple jerseys within any given game or set, and that he has been known to gift game jerseys to people, including staff, with this particular jersey kept by the HOF superstar for his private collection.
