Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction Fall 2019
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 11/5/2019
Presented annually to honour those making a substantial contribution to hockey in the United States, the Lester Patrick Trophy was first awarded in 1966, with anywhere from 1 to 4 recipients any given year. We have an example that was presented to longtime NHL HOF defenceman Ray Bourque in 2003. At 11” in height and featuring a detailed bronze of the legendary coach and innovator, it has been mounted to an approx 5” x 7” x 2” sloping wooden base, with a gold-coloured plaque affixed listing the particulars including “Lester Patrick Award”, “Raymond Bourque” and “2003”. Exhibiting a patinated surface throughout and more pronounced in certain areas, just light wear is present including a few minor marks/blemishes to the base and plaque. A signed LOA from Ray Bourque will accompany. A portion of the sales from the Ray Bourque personal collection will benefit the Bourque Family Foundation.
Considered a non-NHL trophy because it may be awarded to players, coaches, officials, and other personnel outside the NHL, the trophy is named after Lester Patrick (1883–1960), player and longtime coach of the New York Rangers, who was a developer and innovator during the earlier days of the game.
