Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction Fall 2019

Scarce indeed are these intriguing little cards, with a complete set almost unheard of. With similarities to Willard and Dominion Chocolate sets of the same period, these tobacco cards star prominent Canadian athletes of the day, with Wright & Dickson sports equipment, (baseball, golf, tennis), advertised on the backs. Cards were worth two cents towards various articles. Football legend "Pep" Leadley (Queens), basketball star and all-round athlete "Bobbie" Rosenfeld and father of Canadian golf George S. Lyon highlight the lineup, with boxing, wrestling, track & field, swimming, rowing, skiing, speed skating and still other sports also represented. Overall condition here is quite pleasing, with hardly a crease spotted and corner/edge wear sending most to the VG+ to VG-EX range, with some EXs present. Hamilton, Ontario's Tobacco Products Corporation of Canada was responsible for these terrific pieces of Canadiana.
