Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction Fall 2019
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 11/5/2019
An elected member of the Royal Canadian Academy of Arts, Ken Danby is known for his realistic studies, and he has served on the governing board of the Canada Council and as a member of the Board of Trustees of the National Gallery of Canada. Arguably his most noteworthy work, we have a framed copy of “At the Crease” from 1972. At approx 19” x 26 ½” (exposed), a generic goaltender is expertly depicted, complete with period Northland stick and fiberglass goal mask. “At The Crease” is centered over the base, along with “Ken Danby 1972”. Matted and framed to full dimensions of 24” x 30”, we should note some toning over the bottom and right borders, with this likely occurring from a former framing. There is also a crack to the glass in the very upper right corner.
