Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction Fall 2019
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 11/5/2019
Receiving the first million dollar signing bonus in hockey history, Bobby Hull signed with the Winnipeg Jets to the dismay of the NHL in 1972, with the superstar arguably the biggest draw the rebel league ever acquired. We have a stick used by Hull during his second season in River City, in 1973-74, with this example team-signed by the entire Winnipeg Jets squad. A Northland stick with no identifiers other than the pattern number of “1178” on the underside and the two stamps from supplier Larson, “B Hull” is stamped over the upper shaft, with the stick retaining the original black tape over the blade, shaved handle and knob. 24 have signed the front side of the shaft in blue ballpoint, including Hull, along with Wakely, Daley, Rousseau, Snell and others.
Exhibiting light use with the striping accent intact (loose), the blade appears to be broken beneath the tape, with the stick remaining solid. The remaining signers include Ash, Stephanson, Sutherland, Gratton, Hargreaves, Pratt, Hornung, Huck, Bordeleau, Zanussi, Black, Johnson and a few others.
