His final season in pinstripes, Babe Ruth began seeking the managerial position with the New York Yankees in 1934, even hinting that he would choose to retire if not granted the roll by Jacob Ruppert. With this never really in the cards for the Yankees, The Babe was ultimately traded to the Boston Braves early in 1935, ceasing his relationship with the Bombers. Stamped with the date of a Yankees vs White Sox match-up early during the 1934 season, on May 24th, we have an original photo of Ruth with wife Claire. At 8” x 10” and attired in his Yankees road uniform, Claire smiles to the camera while holding on to her husband, with a stoic gaze captured on the aging slugger. A stamp from photographer “Burgert” is visible on the reverse along with notation marks, writing, and a few date stamps including the aforementioned “May 24 1934”, along with “Jul 4 1986” and “Oct 16 1994”.
An additional “By News Staff Photographer” stamp appears on the reverse, with the photo exhibiting surface wrinkles, small creases and indentations, with “E98.4” written in pencil over the front right corner. The reverse also shows toning, with the photo displaying well overall.
