Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction Fall 2019

A chance here to score three of the four World Hockey Association cards sets put out by O-Pee-Chee, with of course Bobby Hull and the Howe family leading the lineup. A 66-card set from 1974-75 features mostly EX to EX-MT representatives which average EX+, with card #1 featuring Gordie, Mark and Marty Howe at EX, similar to 50-Hull and notable condition exceptions being 17-Hedberg RC and 64-Plante (both creased and G). The checklist is unmarked and EX+. .....A neat (folded) 10-cent wrapper accompanies a '76-77 ensemble (132 cards), with intermittent EX-MTs and NMs observed but a majority of cards with a touched or dinged corner or corners, sending the average to the EX neighborhood. The 50-Gordie Howe card is a multi-creased filler with staining down the left edge, while a crease-free 100-Hull entry also is affected by staining/toning down the left border. The checklist is unmarked, off-centered and VG-EX. ......Condition is best among the 66 cards from '77-78, with NM-or-better cards dominating and a majority of NM-MT examples featuring pleasing centering. Nifty bonuses are autographs on eight cards. In numerical order, they are 8-Real Cloutier, 15-Ulf Nilsson, 21-Lars-Erik Sjoberg, 26-Garry Lariviere, 27-Peter Sullivan, 39-Willy Lindstrom, 54-Norm Dube and 64-Lyle Moffat. Ah, the good old WHA!
