Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction Fall 2019
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 11/5/2019
Some of the hardest images to locate for any of the four major North American sports, early hockey team photos are scarce, especially examples that originate from before or just after the turn of the century. We have a collection of 5 photos, originating from circa-1910 until the late-1930s. First, we have the earliest with a circa-1910 large format team photo, with no identification other than the winged-C team logos, with the toned 10” x 13” image affixed to a slightly large mount at approx 11” x 16”. The photo exhibits surface wear along with a large crease/break to the surface that runs through the mount, with the upper and lower right corners of the mount broken off. The second image is a cabinet photo of the 1925-26 Ottawa Technical School (12” x 14”), winners of the “Ottawa Interscholastic Hockey League”, with surface wear to the photo and staining/spotting to the matte. The third pictures a team of six in an on-ice outdoor shot (7 ½” x 9”), with “1931-32” handwritten, framed to 8 ½” x 10 ¾”. The photo appears fairly clean, with wear to the frame. Next, the fourth photo feature’s the New Hamburg Creamery team from 1936, winners of the “Twin City Junior League & WOHA Championship”, with composite images along with a pair of trophies. At 8” x 10”, the photo is affixed to a 12” x 14” mount, with the photo slightly loose, with heavy toning/staining to the mount along with a tear and two broken off pieces. The final photo feature’s the 1938-39 Conn Flyers, “Northwest Territory Hockey Champions”, with the approx 8” x 10” composite image affixed to a 12” x 14” mount, with light wear to each.
