Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction Fall 2019
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 11/5/2019
Attractive sepia tone photo captures the 1934-35 New York Americans with Hall of Fame member and coach Bullet Joe Simpson dapper in full suit and tie. Additional Hall of Fame inductees include Harry Oliver, Sweeney Schriner and Red Dutton. The struggling franchise missed the playoffs in 1934-35 but sneaked in the following year and shocked the Chicago Black Hawks by topping them 7-5 in a total-goal series. However, the Americans would fall to the Leafs in the next round. At 9 ¾” x 13”, the team is pictured on ice, with the photo set within a matte with total dimensions of approx 13 ½” x 17”.
The image displays beautifully with a few small indentation marks over the upper left, along with some toning and corner wear to the matte. There are also a few handwritten notations over the reverse, with the matte affixed to a cardboard backing at some point.
