Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction Fall 2019
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 11/5/2019
Formed from the sale of the historic Quebec Bulldogs in 1920, the Hamilton Tigers only saw five seasons of NHL action, culminating in a first-place finish in 1925 right before the club was dissolved with the player’s rights being sold to the newly formed New York Americans. This gorgeous and scarce 1920-21 composite team photo measures 9” x 14”, and it features bust-length portraits of the full team along with management. Hall of Famer Joe Malone is pictured, along with Johnny Ross Roach, Goldie Prodgers and the only man to be banned from the NHL for life… big bad Billy Coutu. The main image area remains fairly clean. Adhered to a thick mount, the photo exhibits wear to the corners and along edges including a chip to the mount on the upper right corner, with a few faint pencil notations on verso. We should also add that we have only offered one Hamilton Tigers team photo previously - this example, which illustrates the rarity of images for the club.
