Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction Fall 2019
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 11/5/2019
Original surviving hockey artwork from the 1940s and earlier is rare, especially quality examples featuring prominent superstars and Hall of Fame members. We have a trio of New York Rangers/MSG original works highlighted by artwork that feature’s the famous Bread Line of Frank Boucher along with Bill and Bun Cook. At 16 ½” x 22 ½”, the trio are pictured as statues on a large monument, with the player's images taken from an original photo. “The Greatest Front Line in Hockey History” is written along the base of the monument, with each player’s points listed. The artist Burris Jenkins has signed along the bottom right, with cropping marks present, indicating it was used for publication. The second piece is from 1938 and by Phil Berube (7 ½” x 10 ½”), and feature’s Lester Patrick, while the third is 14” x 20” and pictures Madison Square Garden’s Mary Cassidy.
The Lester Patrick Berube piece has a few pencil notations, with a sticker on the reverse from “The Bell Syndicate”. The Mary Cassidy piece has pencil notations, and shows sports being played at MSG. All three artworks show some aging and wear with moderate to heavier toning to the card stock, with a bit of staining over the reverse of the Bread Line art as well as tape, with this added to rectify a few small tears.
