Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction Fall 2019
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 11/5/2019
Advertised as the “World’s first goalie equipment specialist store”, Don Simmons Sports – and later Simmons Hockey – began life over 30 years ago when NHL goalkeeper Don Simmons set up shop, with the goal to cater to netminders. All serving previously as vintage examples displayed at Simmons Sports store, we have a collection of vintage goaltender gloves totaling six, and ranging from the 1960s to 1980s. Dominated by Cooper, we have a single Cooper GM6 Professional model from the 1960s, a trio of Cooper Custom Built Professional models from the 1970s including a pair of G12 models, a Winn-Well right-handed 99RC Professional model from the 1970s and an especially large Cooper white and black GM-LGDC Super Pro model from the 1980s.
The majority of the gloves show light wear from use with intact strapping and no obtrusive or unsightly damage, with some wear to the screened-on logos on the 1960s glove. The Winn-Well also shows a bit more wear, with the screened-on logo somewhat worn, along with the cloth patch intact. The oversized Cooper glove from the 1980s shows heavy excessive wear, with numerous puck marks visible, along with tears to the material, frayed lacing and salted/oxidized grommets.
