Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction Fall 2019
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 11/5/2019
The 14th overall selection at the 2004 NHL Entry Draft, netminder Devan Dubnyk is a three-time All-Star, with the Bill Masterton Memorial Trophy won in 2015 for his “perseverance, sportsmanship, and dedication to ice hockey”. From his final of five seasons spent in Alberta with Edmonton, we have a retro-style photo-matched goal mask that was worn by the Regina native in 2013-14, with this his last Oilers mask. A Bauer model with intact cage, strapping, interior padding and throat guard, a wonderful high-quality paint job in Oilers colours has been executed by noted mask painter David Gunnarsson (DaveArt), with his label behind the right ear. There is some crazing to the surface over each side, with a few small edge chips, most notably at the reverse of the right ear. We should also note that the original back plate was kept and used on Dubnyk’s Nashville Predators mask, with a white replacement currently on the offered mask, confirmed by Getty Image #463595975.
A numeric image has been matched to the left side of the mask, particularly to the small chip on the lower corner, to the exact particularities of the staining of the lower two screws and to the "scuffed" look on that side of the mask, while for the right side, Getty Image #185655430, from Oct 17, 2003, has been matched to the small chip on the back edge, to the exact particularities of the staining of the lower two screws and to the "scuffed" look on that side of the mask. Lastly, Getty Image #187367816, from Nov 5, 2013, has been matched to the pair of black marks in the white stripe on the top right ear side of the helmet (one mark mostly washed-out). We should also note that a number of other included images are showing exact matches to the particularities/details of the paint job and some details of the aforementioned photo-matches.
