Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction Fall 2019
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 11/5/2019
Represented by players from the WHA, Team Canada took on the Soviets again in 1974, hoping to repeat the success achieved in 1972. This would be the final major series between the powerhouses before the establishment of the Canada Cup, in 1976. We have a team-signed stick used in the tournament by Rick Ley. A CCM “Canada ‘74” model" in red and white, “Walton” appears over the upper shaft with the stick made for Mike Walton’s use during the tournament, with the name crossed out and “Ley” handwritten, for teammate Rick Ley. The original black tape remains on the blade and white over the knob, with the stick showing light to moderate use, with wear to the blade and knob along with a few marks to the shaft. One side of the shaft has been shaved down, with 18 signatures, most in black marker, including HOF members G. Howe, M. Howe, Mahovlich, Hull and Cheevers, along with Tremblay, Selwood, Stapleton, Howe, Hamilton, Shmyr, Webster and others. The signatures display well including Mr Hockey, with the majority remaining bold and dark with no issues. An LOA from Joe Sgro will accompany. Addendum; take notice that the Gordie Howe signature is a clubhouse signature.
