This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 11/5/2019
More items hailing from the personal collection of noted goalkeeper Don Simmons that were all found while antiquing, we have a wonderful collection of vintage equipment – mostly goaltender, totaling 13, along with a desirable Reach Wright & Ditson counter advertising display from the 1940s. Included, we have a pair of vintage 1930s goal pads, four trappers from the 1950s, a 1940s chest protector, a Czech blocker and glove combo from the 1960s, two left-footed goalie skates from the 1960s and elbow pads, children’s pant shells and a single glove from the 1970s. The die cut counter display is approx 12” x 19” with an easel back, with an attractive goaltender pictured along with “Reach Wright & Ditson”. “Made in Canada” also appears along the base, with “RWD 8-47” (August 1947) over the bottom left. An LOA from the Simmons family will accompany.
The counter display shows especially heavy wear, with creasing, tears, holes, paper loss over the netminders face and clear tape over the front. The back easel also shows damage, with tears and additional tape. The vintage goal pads show heavy wear with no maker visible, with most of the original strapping gone, while the two goalie skates are both CCM, with heavy wear to each including some rusting to the blades. Next, the trappers include an early-1950s Kenesky model (heavy wear with a torn pocket, stiff leather and salting to the metal grommets), 1950s Spalding right-handed GG3 model (heavy wear with stiff leather, discolouration and a tear to the pocket) and a generic 1950s model with just “231700” at the base of the pocket (moderate wear, displays nicely). The blocker and glove combo are 1960s VHV models made in Prague, with just light wear to each. This is followed by the 1940s chest protector, with this example manufactured by D&R, with heavy wear including staining to the strapping and felt. The single glove is a Cooper model with silver LA Kings crown logo, with the purple and yellow glove likely originating from the club, with “NHL Professional” over the wrist guard. The left-handed glove shows good use, with moderate wear over the thumb and palm. Lastly, we have a pair of Hollander Vic Hadfield signature model gloves, both in poor condition and cheaply made, a pair of CCM elbow pads in yellow leather with moderate to heavy use visible, and a pair of 1970s/80s Cooper pant shells in red with blue stripes and white stars, with a few stains and rips.
