Representing a number of stops along his noteworthy career as a premier professional goaltender throughout the 1950s/60s, we have a collection of more personal items all hailing from three-time Stanley Cup champion, Don Simmons. Included, we have a suitcase from his time traveling with the Bruins, with “Boston Bruins” and “D.S.” engraved in white over the top (20” x 26” with heavy wear throughout), a WHL “All Star Goal Keeper” trophy from his time with Vancouver in 1967 (9” in height with moderate to heavier wear to the metal components including the small plaque) and a gold puck with wooden base for Simmons’ trio of shutouts with Tulsa in 1964-65 (4” x 4” x 3 ½” – with heavy surface wear and loss to text on the gold-coloured metal puck, along with additional wear to the base and affixed plaque). Also included is a pair of signed NHL game-action photos, a Ronson lighter, jewelry/trinkets and more. An LOA from the Simmons family will accompany.
The photos are both 11” x 14” and picture Simmons in game-action with the Bruins, with heavy wear (one has a broken surface), with each signed in blue ballpoint. The Ronson lighter is accompanied by its original box, cloth bag and cleaning brush, with light handling wear to the lighter. The jewelry includes a New York Rangers pendant with full colour enamel logo (1 ½” with moderate wear), a Bruins tie clip and a 1976 Olympic soccer key chain. Also in the collection, we have a pair of receipts, both addressed to Eddie Shore, with one for the purchase of a Kenesky goal glove from Barton Sports in Hamilton, with this most likely purchased for Simmons use during his time with Shore’s Springfield Indians, between 1951 and 1957. This is followed by a mug with graphics for the 1972 Summit Series (5 ½” with wear to the gold rim and handle) and a copy of the Jan 11, 1958 Star Weekly, with the Simmons/Flaman photo page intact (10 ½” x 14” with toning).
