Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction Fall 2019
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 11/5/2019
A powerhouse winning three-consecutive Stanley Cup championships, the Toronto Maple Leafs would battle both Chicago and Detroit for supremacy in 1963-64, with each post-season series going the full seven games. Tim Horton would be selected to the NHL First All-Star Team, with netminder Don Simmons playing his final games for the Leafs this season. Gifted to Mr. Simmons for his status as a Stanley Cup champion in 1964 with Toronto, we have an attractive silver jewelry box that was presented by the City of Toronto, along with a 1963-64 Leafs team photo. At approx 5 ¼” x 4” x 2”, the initials “DS” are engraved over the hinged lid in elegant script, with additional text over the front side that includes “Presented by the City of Toronto” and “Stanley Cup Winners - April 1964”. Facsimile signatures from both the mayor and city clerk also grace each side. The team photo is 7” x 9 ¼”, affixed to a 12 ½” x 14” folder. An LOA from the Simmons family will accompany.
The jewelry box has a few additional stampings on the underside, including “61” and “Birks EP-NS”. There is some tarnishing in spots, along with light surface wear, with the interior cedar section clean. The photo picture’s the full team along with management, with a superimposed image of the Stanley Cup. In gorgeous condition with no issues for the black and white image, the elegant folder shows just light handling/edge wear.
