With a respectable 85 points earned during the regular season, the Toronto Maple Leafs would finish second overall at the conclusion the 1961-62 NHL campaign, led by Frank Mahovlich’s 71 points. Toronto would dispatch of the Rangers in the first round of the playoffs, with a strong Chicago club with always deadly Bobby Hull standing in the way of the Blue and White’s first Stanley Cup championship since 1951. The Leafs would prove superior over 6 games, with this their first of three consecutive championships. Backstopped by Don Simmons and Johnny Bower, Simmons would see action in 9 games in 1961-62, along with an additional 3 during the postseason, winning 2 of those important playoff contests. We have a wonderful 1961-62 Stanley Cup championship trophy that was presented to Don Simmons. Standing a majestic 13” and mounted to a wooden base with green felt underside, the names of the men who made it happen are engraved beneath Leafs executives, with “Toronto Maple Leafs Hockey Club” and “1961-62” engraved above. An LOA from the Simmons family will accompany.
Heavy tarnishing and surface wear is present throughout, with the top bowl slightly bent, with a pair of small dents visible, including one to the left of the engraved text affecting the “R” of “Robert Davidson”. There is also some wear to the black wooden base and green felt underside, with the trophy displaying well despite the cosmetic flaws.
