Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction Fall 2019
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 11/5/2019
The first overall draft pick in 1997, Joe Thornton just completed his 21st season of NHL action, with seven spent with the Bruins, thirteen with San Jose and one split between the two. The St Thomas native has also represented Canada on a number of occasions, winning gold at the 2010 Winter Olympics and 2016 World Cup. We have a signed stick used by the premier centerman during his rookie era in the late-1990s, circa 1998-99. An Easton Ultra Lite Graphite model, the original ribbed white tape job is in place on the handle and knob (with handwritten “6”), with the blade tape removed to facilitate the large and attractive silver paint pen signature (it is possible that the blade was never taped). With light wear to the shaft including dark marks and red paint transfer over the taped handle, we should note that with the blade possibly never having been taped, it could have been added after the shaft was originally used. Hailing from the personal collection of Ray Bourque, this stick will be accompanied by his signed LOA. A portion of the sales from the Ray Bourque personal collection will benefit the Bourque Family Foundation.
