Highlighted by a copy from Maurice Richard’s initial visit within enemy territory with his first appearance to Maple Leaf Gardens, we have a Toronto program collection from the 1940s totaling 14, with more than half featuring Leafs contests. Included, we have a single program from 1940-41 (March 8, 1941 Leafs vs Americans – with moderate wear including some soiling/staining, and tears to the spine), a trio from 1941-42; Jan 31, 1942 Leafs vs Bruins – moderate wear to the interior, with the covers detached and held with tape; Feb 7, 1942 Leafs vs Rangers – covers detached, light wear to the interior; Jan 29, 1942 Leafs vs Canadiens – covers detached and torn along the spine, light wear to the interior. The remaining programs all hail from 1942-43 including; Richard’s first MLG game, on Nov 21, 1942 – complete and intact with moderate wear including to the spine along with a few creases and edge wear; Feb 13, 1943 Leafs vs Black Hawks - moderate wear including to the spine along with a few creases; March 27, 1943 Leafs vs Red Wings – complete and intact with just light handling wear and a few creases; Nov 28, 1942 Leafs vs Rangers – heavy spine wear with a few creases. The remaining 6 programs are for junior hockey games, including; March 20, 1943 OHL final Sudbury vs RCAF Flyers; March 29, 1943 Allan Cup Eastern Semis Ottawa vs Toronto; and 1943 OHA Memorial Cup Junior Finals Winnipeg vs Oshawa. The remaining trio are for Ontario championship finals games in 1943, with moderate to heavier wear on the remaining programs.
