Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction Spring 2021
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 6/30/2021
A 14-year NHL veteran, Donald Audette skated for six different clubs and posted over 500 points in 735 career games before retiring at the end of the 2003-04 campaign. During his travels, Audette amassed a collection of equipment and we are pleased to present it to bidders in one exciting lot. Included, we have pants shells and socks from the 2000-01 All-Star Game, Montreal Canadiens and Atlanta Thrashers practice jerseys, two pairs of game-worn uniform pants (Thrashers and Canadiens), well-worn Buffalo Sabres uniform socks, two pairs of gloves, and five game-worn helmets. All of the offered items were obtained directly from Donald Audette.
The most intriguing part of this grouping is memorabilia connected to his only NHL All-Star Game appearance in 2000-01. Representing the now-defunct Atlanta Thrashers, he wore the Eastern Conference pants shell and socks that are included here. There are also two NHL Center Ice size 56 practice jerseys in this lot. One is from his time with the Montreal Canadiens (2001-02 to 2003-04) and the other is particularly compelling since it was from when he skated for the Atlanta Thrashers (1999-00 to 2000-01) and has his number, 28, on the back. The Thrashers practice jersey shows some wear with black marks on the crest. The fun continues with two pairs of game-worn pants – a Tackla model pair that can be attributed to part of his time with the Buffalo Sabres (1993-94 to 1995-96) and another Montreal Canadiens CCM pair which were worn for part of the 2001-02 season. This lot also includes a pair of well-worn Buffalo Sabres socks (circa 1996-1999) and two sets of Jofa gloves from the same period with one pair being black and white and the other being black, white, and red. The latter pair can be spotted on the front of Audette’s 1997-98 Upper Deck hockey card. There is also a fine collection of game-used helmets included in this lot starting with a black late-1990s Buffalo Sabres model with and Xcel visor and number 28 on the back followed by a white Montreal Canadiens bucket featuring an Itech visor and the number 82. Look for two Florida Panthers helmets from his final NHL campaign of 2003-04 with number 28 on the back of each as well. The white helmet does not have a visor attached, but the blue one has a blue Itech visor. Additionally, there is an unmarked CCM helmet included in the lot. It does not have any apparent markings, but Audette has noted that it would most likely be from early in his brief time with the Dallas Stars after joining the club as a free agent in 2001.
