Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction Fall 2019

Shirriff coin fanatics will be ultra-intrigued by this ensemble, with the wow factor being one dozen 1962-63 metal coins which have never been removed from their original cellophane packaging! Five Leafs, including #1-Bower and 4-Horton, five Canadiens and all-stars Hall and Keon contribute to a complete set, with others ranging from Poor to NM. A complete '61-62 set features intermittent, mostly light toning but few issues. We spot one chipped coin, (97-Hadfield), with creasing affecting the image of 21-Hillman and a mix of Shirriff (55) and Salada (65) versions. From '60-61 are 48 coins, low on star power, with Hull and Ullman notable and a half-dozen low grade examples. Short prints among (69) '68-69 coins are Flyers 12-Hannigan and Penguins 12-Boyer, with stars Hull, Hall and Cheevers present and more lineup and condition details available on our website.
Back to the "lushus" metal coins still in cellophane, with other Toronto players being 14-MacMillan, 17-Hillman and 21-Stewart, while Montreal entries are 23-Fontinato, 24-G. Tremblay, 36-Johnson, 38-Hicke and 39-Talbot. Most have a little edge tear or slit in the cellophane, but not large enough to remove the coin, with some scotch tape on the left edge of the Hall example. Among the other '62-63s, some 20 have no or minimal wear and are NM or close to it, with varying degrees of edge wear spotted on the others, 12 of which are low grade. Meanwhile, other notable '68-69s are Shack, Sanderson, Mikita, Delvecchio, Unger, Bathgate, Gilbert and Giacomin, with condition mostly in the VG to EX range and some cracked "windows" observed. A very low grade Bobby Orr is also to note. Like we like to say, "several possibilities" with this interesting stash.
