Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction Fall 2019
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 11/5/2019
The image of Hockey Hall of Famer Gordie Drillon in a Montreal Canadiens uniform and offered (briefly!) in the Bee Hive photo promotion is one that surfaces extremely infrequently, with numerous Bee Hive collectors surely still having it on their want lists. Best known for his six consistent seasons with the Maple Leafs from 1936-37 to '41-42 in which he averaged better than 20 goals a year, winning the scoring title and Lady Byng Trophy in '37-38, Drillon finished up his NHL career with the Habs in '42-43, potting a career-high 28 goals. We cannot spot a single flaw in the photo, affixed to its original blue backing that exhibits rather light handling/wear. There is creasing, including a one-inch diagonal crease in the upper left corner region, with a horizontal inch-long crease in the lower blue border and a tiny crease in the lower right corner. A problem-free back is also to note. Securing this desirable scarcity will surely excite.
