Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction Fall 2019

Fantastic grouping of AHL Baltimore Clippers mementos is circa 1962, according to our consignor, which would date the items from the founding of the Maryland-based minor league hockey team as a New York Rangers farm team. The Clippers helped develop Blue Shirts legends Eddie Giacomin and Jean Ratelle and count fellow HOFers Jacques Plante and Doug Harvey among their alumni. The team’s distinctive logo featuring a skating sea captain and a ship’s anchor is displayed on each of the three items, including the wood case of a cutlery set, an ice bucket, and a serving tray. Baltimore fell short in a bid to secure a 1967 NHL expansion team, and the Clippers folded soon after Washington got a franchise.
A small gold-colored Baltimore Clippers logo in relief sits in the middle of a gold colored wreath affixed to the cover of the six-piece cutlery set’s 15 1/2" x 8 3/4" wooden presentation box. “Hand Made, High Carbon Stainless Steel” is printed on the blade of each of the six knives, which have “Japan” stamped on the reverse of the blade above the hilt. The tip of the second shortest knife is broken off.
A similarly small Baltimore Clippers logo in relief, this one silver colored, is affixed to the lid of the ice bucket. “EPCA Bristol Silverplate by Poole B 40” is stamped on the bottom of the two-handled bucket, which displays what appears to be cleanable tarnish. The ice bucket stands approximately 8 1/2" tall and measures roughly 6 1/2" in diameter around the brim.
A large Baltimore Clippers logo is etched in white on the black background of the round tray, which measures 11 3/4" in diameter around its silver-colored edge.
