Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction Fall 2019
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 11/5/2019
From a 94-point season that witnessed superstar Mat Sundin score 41 of his Toronto Maple Leafs franchise-record 420 goals, we have a pair of skates worn by the Hall of Fame member in 1996-97, just his third season with the Leafs. Nike models with Super Steel blades, "13-2" is handwritten on the bottom of each skate, with both having intact laces. Both skates exhibit good game use, with a few cuts and scrapes over each toe, along with rubbing and wear to the leather in spots. There is also some staining over the felt sections of the tongues. We should also note that according to the accompanying letter from Nike, these were one of the first pair to be worn and endorsed by a player.
Sundin wore these models at the 1996 World Cup (Getty Images #351463, #222924) and with the Leafs during the regular season (Getty Images #53133752, #345962, #287986, #306719).
