The No. 1 pick in the 1997 NHL Draft, Joe Thornton took a little while to find his big league legs on his way to becoming one of the top playmakers in the game and a Hart and Art Ross Trophy winner. Thornton’s 1997-98 Boston Bruins game-worn jersey from his rookie season is photo-matched to three Getty Images pictures taken during a 3-0 win in Philadelphia on December 3, 1997. Two of the photos show Jumbo Joe celebrating after he scored his first NHL goal, a backhand past Garth Snow at 6:09 of the third for the only point he recorded in his first 31 games. There are eight distinctive team repairs on the jersey, which displays more game wear in the form of black marks on the front tail and on the sleeves, a bit of blue paint transfer on the left sleeve cuff, and inner pilling on the sleeves and behind the Bruins crest. Comes with an LOA.
NHL Center Ice Authentic, Starter and size 56-R tagging are in the back of the neck and the Custom Crafted Official Boston Bruins 1st Set 1997-98 Season team stamp is screened inside the rear hem.
Thornton’s first NHL goal game-worn rookie season jersey is photo-matched to Getty Images #110551387 taken on December 3, 1997 by the small black mark in the white stripe to the right of the No. 6 on the left sleeve and the particularities of the black sewing lines on the left side hem.
It is also photo-matched to Getty Images #110551246 taken on December 3, 1997 by the two loose white threads on the No. 6 on the back, and to Getty Images #110551090 taken on December 3, 1997 by the long partially washed-out black marks on the lower front of the jersey.
There are two circular team repairs on the front tail, two on the front of the upper left sleeve, two on the back of the right sleeve, and two more sewing fixes on the right side of the back.
