Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction Fall 2019
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 11/5/2019
Found during antiquing exploits by noted 1950s/60s netminder and Stanley Cup champion Don Simmons, we have a collection of vintage hockey sticks totaling 4, including 3 one-piece examples. First, we have a 1930s youth-sized Hespeler “Viking” one-piece model (47 ½”), with silver-stamped maker and model, along with an intact orange striping accent. Next, we have a 1920s full-size one-piece stick (51 ½”) with a heavily taped and cracked blade, with the maker somewhat visible but not discernible over the lower shaft. This is followed by a second youth-sized model (37”), likely 1930s/40s, with “Junior” across the blade, with the area visible of a former paper label. Lastly, we have a late-1930s/early-1940s Northland “League” two-piece stick (54”), with intact paper label and black striping accent. An LOA from the Simmons family will accompany.
As mentioned, the one-piece stick with taped blade shows heavy use throughout, with the blade cracked beneath the tape and the striping accent gone. The stick marked “Junior” also shows moderate use, with some wear to the blade and paint residue to the shaft. The remaining two sticks both show light to moderate use, with puck marks on the blades and expected wear to the shafts.
