Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction Spring 2019
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 6/18/2019
Originating from just the 11th NHL season in 1927-28 and issued in the daily Montreal newspaper La Patrie, we have a complete set of 21 photo premiums, with some of the greatest and iconic early Montreal Canadiens superstars featured. Sepia-tone photos on thin card stock and measuring approx 8 1/2" by 11", the desirable images are mostly the work of famous Montreal photographer James Rice. Highlighted by legendary HOFers Georges Vezina, Howie Morenz and Aurele Joliat, fellow inductees Lalonde, Laviolette, Pitre, Gardiner, Mantha, Hainsworth and owner Leo Dandurand are also included. The majority of the premiums display well for their age and size, with toning, corner wear and creasing the main concerns within the collection, along with a few tears and staining.
The remaining players in the collection include Lepine, Leduc, Hart, Burke, Langlois, Gaudreault, Patterson, Gagne, Lafrance, Larochelle and manager Cecil Hart. The majority of the premiums display nicely, with lower technical grades, with the creasing, wrinkles and the odd indentation present. The Vezina exhibits creases along with a tear, with tape residue along each side. The Morenz, Hainsworth and Mantha have a bit of staining along the bottom right, with spotting/staining to the Gaudreault and Burke photos along the top border. The Pitre has a torn bottom right corner, with a tear at the base of the Gardiner photo and a tear and paper loss to the Lepine.
