Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction Fall 2019
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 11/5/2019
Absolutely perfect for display and exhibiting a certain period charm, we have a great collection of vintage hockey equipment totaling seven items, along with a Foster Hewitt table top hockey game with the original box. First, the Hewitt game was made by Reliable and has all players along with the mechanism intact, with just the two referees broken off and lost and moderate wear from its former use. The 27 ½” x 13” x 5” picture box shows heavy wear including rips, bends, creases and material loss. Next, we have a pair of vintage 1970s goal pads made by Cooper, with worn tags over each side and all of the strapping intact, with moderate to heavier wear to the leather from use. This is followed by a child-sized stick, with this two piece example from the 1950s having no maker’s mark, a grey striping accent and a large groove over the upper shaft. We also have a pair of vintage 1930s felt shin pads with leather knee cups, with no maker’s mark and heavy wear present. The final items are all skates, with two pairs of solid steel turn of the century examples including one made by Union Hardware, a wooden base pair made in Europe in the late-19th century with leather hardware and a circa-1960s pair of Gordie Howe-endorsed TruLine Superb 600 models with intact laces. The antique skates all show wear from use, with some rusting to the blades, with the Howe skates showing light to moderate wear to the boots, along with some discolouration to the blades.
