Garry Howatt’s signed game-worn Jofa helmet is included in this big lot of trophies, plaques and awards from the battling forward’s hockey. Howatt signed in bold black marker on the side of his white Gretzky-style lid, which is attributed to have been worn with the New Jersey Devils in 1982-84, and possibly with the AHL Maine Mariners in 1983-84 as well. Also featured are two of Howatt’s 1981-82 Hartford Whalers awards, including the Mark Kravitz Award, which is a bowl trophy presented to the Players’ Most Valuable Player by a vote of all team players, and the Frank Keyes Memorial Award, the annual unsung hero award presented by a vote of Hartford sports media. Comes with Garry Howatt’s signed LOA.
“1981-82 Mark Kravitz Award WVIT – 30 Gary (sic) Howatt, April 3, 1982” is engraved on a plaque on the front of the square wood base of Howatt’s personal trophy, which features a lidded bowl. The hockey player that stood atop the lid is included but broken and the trophy is dismounted from the base.
10” tall trophy with a gold-colored hockey player (with stick missing from his hands) standing on a wood base with a plaque that reads: “Frank Keyes Memorial, Hartford Courant Sports Writer, Hartford Whalers 1981-82 Unsung Hero, Garry Howatt”, 4” square wood base stands 2 1/2" tall, player is roughly 7 1/2" tall.
10” x 12” wood plaque from Long Island Charities Foundation Inc. that displays: “Salutes Garry Howatt” along with a team photo of the 1980 Stanley Cup Champion Islanders, dated July 11, 1980.
10” x 8” wood plaque that reads “Maine Mariner Garry Howatt 1983-1984, Presented by Maine Mariners Booster Club”
12” x 15” wood plaque from the Epilepsy Foundation of America has a plaque that is engraved: “To Garry Howatt, who has fought and won his own battle with epilepsy and through his courage on and off the ice inspires other young people to do the same. Your shared victory gives new hope to four million Americans with epilepsy. March 1974”
9” x 10” shield-shaped wood plaque is engraved “Light the candle of understanding, EFA-Philadelphia thanks, Garry Howatt, for his valuable assistance and commitment to the epilepsy movement, Epilepsy Foundation of America, Philadelphia Chapter, January 11, 1981.”
12” x 15” wood plaque from the Epilepsy Foundation of America has a plaque that is engraved: “To Garry Howatt, In appreciation of his efforts in advancing the cause of epilepsy, “Epilepsy is what he’s got – not what he is”, January 21, 1976, Washington, D.C.”
