Longtime New York Islanders fan favorite Garry Howatt’s impressive milestone goal puck collection features the pint-sized enforcer’s first NHL goal puck and three plaques, each representing one of his first three career hat tricks for the Islanders. The puck from Howatt’s first NHL goal in Pittsburgh on Nov. 7, 1973 is from the NHL’s Goal Puck Program with the goal date and details on one side and the Penguins logo on the other. Howatt’s Islanders hat trick plaques each display three pucks and represent his three-goal games against Yves Belanger in St. Louis on Dec. 20, 1975 and HOFer Tony Esposito in Chicago on March 14, 1976 and March 16, 1977. Comes with Garry Howatt’s signed LOA.
Howatt scored his first NHL goal against Pittsburgh’s Jim Rutherford on Nov. 7, 1973. His goal at 19:33 of the second period, assisted by Andre St. Laurent and Bob Nystrom, drew the Islanders even to complete the scoring in a 1-1 tie against the Penguins at the old Civic Arena. The NHL Goal Puck sticker is affixed to one side of the milestone puck with the scorer, team, date and No. fields typed out as follows: “Gary Howatt, New York Islanders, Nov. 7, 1973, and NYI-2-026, the latter indicating that it was the Islanders’ 26th goal in the second season of the program.
Howatt’s three hat trick plaques each measure 14 3/4" x 13 1/4" with three pucks arrayed across the top and a plaque at the bottom displaying details of the game result, date and opponent, and the times and assists for the three goals.
Three St. Louis Blues pucks are displayed on the first plaque, which reads: “Garry Howatt, First NHL Three Goal Game, Islanders 7 at St. Louis 1 (Belanger), December 20, 1975 vs. St. Louis Blues, (1) Howatt: Nystrom-4:48 2nd (GW), (2) Howatt: St. Laurent – Nystrom – 12:49 2nd, (3) Howatt: Nystrom – Henning – 14:23 3rd”
The second plaque has three Chicago Black Hawks pucks displayed above a plaque that reads: “Garry Howatt, Second NHL Hat Trick, Islanders 5 at Chicago 3 (Esposito), March 14, 1976 vs. Chicago Black Hawks, Howatt (18): Drouin—12:07 2nd, Howatt (19): -- 3:48 3rd, Howatt (20): Westfall-6:21 3rd”
