Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction Fall 2019

Selected by the New York Islanders at the 1972 NHL Amateur Draft, Garry Howatt was an inaugural member of the club, spending nine seasons on Long Island which included helping the Islanders win their first two of four consecutive Stanley Cup championships, in 1980 and 1981. We have a 1979-80 New York Islanders Stanley Cup championship 10K gold and diamond ring, and according to Howatt himself, this is the very specimen he was awarded after winning the Stanley Cup in 1980. Size 9 ½ with an approximate weight of 33 grams, an inserted diamond sits within a diamond-shaped mount over a large rectangular blue stone, encompassed by “Stanley Cup Champions 1980” in raised letters/numerals. The right shank feature’s a raised Isles logo over crossed hockey sticks, with “Howatt” above, with a raised Stanley Cup placed over an NHL shield logo on the left shank. The typical gold marking within the inner band has been worn away from the area being buffed after a re-sizing, with the ring positively tested for 10K. This area of the band is also thinner now from being buffed/polished, with the original pronounced edge on either side of the band worn down. Displaying beautifully with just light wear over the tableau, the inner and outer band shows moderate to heavier wear from use, with scratches and edge nicks present. There is also additional wear from rubbing over each shank including along edges. A signed LOA from Garry Howatt will accompany this wonderful Stanley Cup championship ring.
